Bringing Art to your community
If you haven’t checked out the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (AGGV) in recent months, you might be surprised by what you have missed. The AGGV has been bringing art into the community through special programs and events.

In July, for the 31st year, the TD Art Gallery Paint-In brought art from 190 artists to Moss Street, with over 30,000 people enjoying the art, music, food and fun of the day.

The new OFFSITE | INSIGHT series has taken art to new and unusual places and spaces throughout the region. In June, internationally renowned artist Brendan Fernandes, performed his piece ‘Moving Change’ at locations across Victoria, which were kept secret until the artist sent location details by text prior to each performance.

August brought the AGGV’s first-ever art event to the community of Port Renfrew where 120 people attended a screening of ‘Forest Breath: A Portrait In Progress’, a 3D stereoscopic video installation filmed with an IMAX rig with two Sony F65 8k cameras in the south Walbran.

The afternoon was an opportunity to experience an innovative work in development, to meet artist Leila Sujir, and to contribute insights towards a broader understanding of the unique forests in the region.

Even the AGGV’s popular Family Sunday program is taking a turn at OFFSITE | INSIGHT programming this weekend, from Sept. 13 to16, with a special outdoor adventure at Victoria’s largest music festival, Rifflandia. The AGGV booth will be on hand all weekend for a special building project inspired by nature, music and the outdoors.

More OFFSITE | INSIGHT programs will be held in coming months; make sure to check out aggv.ca/offsite-insight for future happenings.

In keeping with the AGGV’s commitment of taking art into the community, a Pop-Up Gallery shop will be open at 833 Fort St. throughout the fall. This temporary extension of the AGGV’s Art Rental and Sales Program and Gallery Shop has been provided, thanks to the vision and generosity of Parc Retirement Living. The next time you’re in the Fabulous Fort district, pay the shop a visit and browse a diverse range of local art, catalogues, books, jewellery and holiday gifts.

Information about the AGGV’s Art Rental and Sales, Gallery Shop and Pop-Up Shop can all be found at: aggv.ca/art-rental-sales.
