Concert series of acclaimed musicians
The Victoria Jazz Society, producer of the TD Victoria International JazzFest and Vancouver Island Blues Bash, is a professional arts organization that offers high-quality jazz to the community, showcasing performances with acclaimed musicians. The VJS presents a Fall/Winter/Spring Concert Series, with this year’s series featuring the following artists:

MIKE FARRIS & THE FORTUNATE FEW plus Steph Macpherson: Saturday, Sept. 22 UVic Farquhar Auditorium. Mike Farris toured as lead singer for the southern rock band, Screaming Cheetah Wheelies, and blues band Double Trouble. Farris won the Americana Music Award for “Best New Emerging Artist”, a Dove Award for “Best Traditional Gospel Album of the Year”, and a 2015 GRAMMY for “Best Roots Gospel Album,” Shine For All The People. In September, Farris releases his latest album, ‘Silver & Stone’.

HALIE LOREN: Saturday, Oct. 13 Hermann’s Jazz Club. Justin Time recording artist/singer-songwriter Halie Loren reached #1 on Japan’s Billboard Jazz Chart and Canada’s iTunes chart with her 2013 album, ‘Simply Love’. Loren and producer Troy Miller (Gregory Porter, Amy Winehouse) developed her ninth album, ‘From the Wild Sky’ in April 2018. Loren performed at TD JazzFest 2016.

JANE BUNNET AND MAQUEQUE: Saturday, Nov. 3 Hermann’s Jazz Club. A five-time JUNO Award winner and three-time GRAMMY nominee, flautist/ saxophonist Jane Bunnett leads the brilliant five-member Cuban jazz ensemble, Maqueque. They performed at TD JazzFest 2014.

LINDSAY BEAVER: Saturday, Nov. 10 Hermann’s Jazz Club. Blues-rocking, drummer/singer Lindsay Beaver leads a powerhouse band. Signing with Alligator Records this year, Beaver’s label debut, Tough As Love, will release in October 2018. Beaver recently performed at TD JazzFest 2018.

EMMET COHEN TRIO: Thursday, Nov. 15 Hermann’s Jazz Club. American jazz pianistcomposer Emmet Cohen is a multifaceted solo and trio performer. Cohen was a finalist in the 2011 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition and the prestigious American Pianists Association’s Cole Porter Fellowship (2011, 2015).

MICHAEL KAESHAMMER: Tuesday, Dec. 11 McPherson Playhouse. Two-time JUNO Award winner, singer and pianist Michael Kaeshammer tours his brand-new album, ‘Something New’, released April 2018, recorded at the historic Esplanade Studios in the heart of New Orleans’ Treme district. Kaeshammer will be joined in Victoria on the Something New tour by New Orleans’ musicians Johnny Vidacovich drums, David Piltch bass, amongst others.
